Mother Teresa (August 26, 1910 - September 5, 1997)

Mother Teresa (August 26, 1910 – September 5, 1997)

Clad in a white sari with a blue border, Mother Teresa and the sisters of Missionaries of Charity became a symbol of hope to many – the aged, the destitute, the unemployed, the diseased, the terminally ill, and those abandoned by their families, said the former President of India, Pratibha Patil.

Mother Teresa was a rare and unique individual of our times who lived for higher purposes. Her lifelong devotion to the care of poor, the sick and the disadvantaged was one of the highest examples of service to humanity. The former U.N. Secretary-General Javier Pèrez de Cuéllar said about Mother Teresa: She is the United Nations. She is peace in the world.

Mother Teresa’s work has been recognized and acclaimed throughout the world and she received a number of awards and distinctions:

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is life, fight for it.”
